Please consider maximum funding for Interstate 69 in Kentucky in the next highways bill. This is a unique opportunity here in Western Kentucky to help business and industry, tourism and create jobs. Interstate 69 is planned to run through parts of nine counties from Henderson to Fulton.

As you know, Interstate 69 is a seven-state highway from Indianapolis, IN to Texas. When complete, I-69 is expected to create 27,000 jobs, add $11 billion in wages, produce $19 billion in added value, and create an $11 billion transportation efficiency benefit. It was designated one of only six "Corridors of the Future" nationwide by the U.S. Department of Transportation in 2007. To our north, Indiana is rapidly building I-69 and Tennessee is moving forward with construction just to our south.

We appreciate Congressman Ed Whitfield's recent large reauthorization bill request for I-69 through Kentucky and ask your support in the Senate.

Counties in Kentucky that are directly served by Interstates enjoy a per capita income that is 30% higher than Kentucky counties that don't have an Interstate. We need this advantage in western Kentucky.

Thank you for your support for the development of Interstate 69 through Western Kentucky. Your advocacy for this project from your spot in the House Transportation & Infrastructure Committee is important as the new reauthorization bill is considered by Congress during the next several weeks.
	
	Congressman Whitfield has made a $644 million request for I-69 in the bill because he knows its importance to his district. The positive impact of this corridor will be felt throughout the region, including in areas like Owensboro where the Audubon Parkway is already designated as a future I-69 spur.
	
	In Kentucky, the average per capita income for counties with direct Interstate access is one-third higher than counties without an Interstate. I-69 will connect middle America from north to south. It serves 17 of the top 25 seaports, 13 inland waterway ports and 15 of the top 25 cargo airports. Every major railroad connects to the corridor. Completion will increase transportation efficiency and reduce fuel consumption, travel time and costs, while facilitating trade, providing intermodal connectivity, relieving congestion and promoting economic development.
